Band Resisted Step Ups

I’m sure you’re all aware by now how I’m a big fan of the jump stretch bands first created by Dick Hartzell (the guy in the video above. I mean who doesn’t like them? They are great for:

  • Mobility
  • Flexibility
  • Recovery
  • Speed
  • Strength
  • Conditioning

Today I’d like to go over the “Band Resisted Step Up”

What’s the difference between a regular step and this you ask? Great question! The band forces you to get hip extension which is great for any athlete for speed and glute activation. As a sports performance coach in NYC I need exercises that I gives me the flexibility to do pretty much anywhere, and this is one of those exercises.

How To:

Simply place band around waste and step up. The band should be anchored to something sturdy or if you have a group of athletes the partner can anchor it down…just make sure they don’t screw around, otherwise you’ll hear a big snap :).

Make sure to have the athlete stand ALL the way up and squeeze the glutes to ensure hip extension and glute activation. Otherwise the benefit of using the band is pretty much defeated…

Stay strong,

Team Fusion Trianed
